Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) assessment
Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a group of behavioural symptoms that include inattentiveness, hyperactivity and impulsiveness. The clinical practitioner will derive a diagnosis of ADHD based on the criteria from the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders – 5th Edition, also known as the DSM-5. The ADHD evaluation may include the following:
- Talking with the child, parents or/and teachers to get a family health and behaviour history
- Clinical assessment using standardized behaviour rating scales or questionnaires (ex: IQ assessment & Conners-3)
- Review of the child’s academic, social, and emotional functioning and developmental level
- Evaluation of learning disabilities
